Ontario to begin Phase One of its reopening plan on Thursday
Premier Doug Ford says that the province will officially begin stage one of its three-phase reopening plan later this week. Speaking to reporters, Ford said Ontario will "hit stage one" of the province's three-stage framework for reopening the economy released some weeks ago, starting Thursday.
It comes on the heels of the province permitting hardware stores and garden centre to fully reopen over the weekend. Retail stores were allowed to reopen for curbside pickup only on Monday. The province has previously said that the first phase of its reopening plan will begin with the opening of some outdoor spaces as well "select workplaces" that can "immediately meet or modify operations" to adhere to public health directives.

Canadian National Exhibition cancelled for 2020
The Canadian National Exhibition has cancelled its 2020 event, marking the first time since the Second World War that Canada's largest fair will not be held. The annual fair had been scheduled to run from Aug. 21 to Sep. 7 at Exhibition Place in Toronto. The CNE grounds were converted to a military training and recruitment centre from 1942 to 1945. The event remained closed in 1946 to allow the military to move out.
The 2020 Pacific National Exhibition (PNE) and the 2020 Calgary Stampede were cancelled in mid April.

Seniors to receive up to $500 to offset added costs of COVID-19
Canadian seniors will receive a one-time payment of up to $500 to help offset any increases in the cost of living because of COVID-19. Seniors who qualify for Old Age Security (OAS) will be eligible for a one-time, tax-free payment of $300 and those eligible for the Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS) will get an extra $200. Those eligible for both will receive $500 and seniors already receiving OAS and GIS will get the one-time benefit automatically.
The government is also investing another $20 million in the New Horizons for Seniors Program, which funds community projects for seniors. Schulte said that money will help to mitigate the impacts of isolation with things like virtual exercise programs and tablet laptops.

WestJet extends flight cancellations into July
WestJet says it is extending many flight cancellations into early July as it continues to deal with record-low passenger numbers due to COVID-19. Domestic route suspensions will continue through July 4, and that several domestic seasonal routes also won't begin until July. It further says it is extending its temporary transborder and international route suspensions through to June 25.
In late April, the Calgary-based carrier said it was cancelling some 18,000 flights between May 5 and June 4.
